His teacher handed us this poem as we all stood there watching them hang up their backpacks and slowly, a little unsure, file into the classroom. He looked at me, a little half smile and waved and than he was gone.
"THE FIRST DAY"
I gave you a little wink and smile
As you entered my room today.
For I know how hard it is to leave
And know your child must stay.
You've been with them for five years now
And have been a loving guide,
But now alas, the time has come
To leave them at my side.
Just know that as you walk away
And tears down your cheeks may flow.
I'll love them as I would my own
And help them learn and grow.
For as a parent, I too know
How quickly the years do pass
And that one day soon it will be my turn
To take my child to class.
So please put your mind at ease
And cry those tears no more
For I will love them and take them in
When you leave them at my door.

Oh my goodness. Why do I always cry when you put sentimental things on your blog??? I am crying more right now than when I dropped him off. That poem is soooo sweet. I am going to give a copy to his teacher :)
he looks so grown up!!!!!
what a sweet poem- very thoughtful! must be a wonderful teacher!!! your pictures make me feel like I was there! I love them!!!!!!
Very touching! What a big day - I can't believe he's a kindergartner! Bet he's the smartest in the class! Tell him congrats and ask if he's interested in doing some science experiments with his cousin Tara someday soon. I know a couple that involve ice cream!
Oh SO adorable! My eyes are leaking.... thats not suppose to happen. I LOVE the pictures also!

Hi Jen! Looks like we are having babies around the same time. Will you let me know when you will be up here, I would love to book an appointment
first of all, he has the COOLEST backpack of all time! second of all i felt like a failure when both of my boys started kindergarten. kyle because he said "bye mom!" and walked away from me and jake because he held on to me and said, "please stay with me!" i went home and cried both days.
how cute are those little red tenny's and his sweet smile! what an adventure and milestone for you...pretty exciting to see how far they have come and what an amazing job you have done to prepare them, don't you think! you look fab by the way...luv cami
I was sad the first day I dropped Tyler off, but I have to say, I AM LOVING kindergarten! He loves it, and it's just so much fun! How much would you charge to fly to Florida and take some family pictures for me :) Just kidding, but I would love it if I could get you to take some of our pictures!
Jen
If he is not the most handsome little kinderboy alive... I am proud of you making it through the first day and being pregnant with no emotional break downs. You are an awesome mommy. Hang in there. Remember after 9 months his lease is up he has to find a new place to live. love ya
Too cute.
I sent this to Megan and Maia, too. They loved it. Maia is so much like you, it’s a little scary.
